A good literature review is more than a thinly disguised annotated bibliography. This session will introduce graduate students to research and conceptual strategies for constructing literature reviews by considering the kinds of relationships that exist between individual works of scholarship, and how these relationships provide a critical context for understanding the value of one’s own contributions. Scott McLaren (Humanities Librarian, Scott Library; Graduate Programmes in History and Humanities) and Maura Matesic (Social Science Librarian, Scott Library) will also share techniques for creating visual literature maps designed to open new perspectives on existing scholarship by (re)interpreting the intellectual and bibliographical linkages that unite specific concepts, authors, and documents in a single published conversation.
